1. How
many hours did you complete?
5 hours
2. In a
short paragraph or bulleted list, how did you spend your time?
I
spent my time with my school’s library media specialist. I teach math and have been wanting to
incorporate more literature in my lessons.
We went through the third grade standards and “I Can” statements and
picked out the main skills. Once we did
that we pulled all of the books that correlated and incorporated them into our
unit plans. We made a list of skills
that we did not have books for and Mrs. Vaughn plans on purchasing them with
the money we make this year on our book fair.
3. How
did the experience help you to strengthen at least one Kentucky Teacher
Standard?
The
field experience helped me strengthen Kentucky Teacher Standard 2: The teacher
designs and plans instruction. Through
my work with Mrs. Vaughn, having books planned into our unit plans will ensure
that the third grade math teachers are incorporating more literature into our
math lessons.
4. Talk
a little about one thing you learned because of this field experience.
I
learned just how important it is to incorporate literature across the academic
standards. I have realized just how
important it is to bring literature into my math class.
“Combining
math and literature in classroom activities is a way for teachers to invite children
into the world of math.” Marilyn Burns
